| THE CHURCHES AND MONASTERIES OF ZARA
You can't pass by the monasteries and country chapels of Zaraka. Austere, modest, frugal and notably positioned, they emit an ancient perception of God. They are isolated, beautiful and humbly proud.
In Geraka the convent of Evagelistrias dominates with the miraculous icon (Ροδον τον Αμαρτον) The Unfading Rose. Two chapels coexisting in the same dwelling makes it architecturally unique. The church of Saint George on the down- stairs and the church of Our Lady of the
Annunciation is upstairs.
In Kiparissi on the cliff of Ancient
Aesculapius the Byzantine, is the Monastery of Prophet Elias with its original ground plan and a little further down the church of Panagia Triheroussa wedged within the rocky cliff face.
In Haraka, there is the church of Prophet Elias with its panoramic view of the Aegean Sea. Also the quaint chapel of Saint Paraskevi, the charming convent of Saint John (Agios Yiannis) and church of Saint Thoedoron with its wonderful wall paintings.
In Rihea, the castle of Agios Dimitrios stands alongside medieval villages. Country chapels are scattered throughout the region of Zaraka, you will be touched by their sacred icons, disarmed by their humble nobility and taken by their charming settings.
